Mystery Drop

A while back I put a squarebody front crossmember and sway bar on my '66 shortbed. I used the whole thing as purchased from the junkyard, and redid the bushings, bearings and etc. with new stuff from my local parts store. I did re-use my fairly new stock height '66 springs by Early Classic along with my same Monroe gas shocks. Both springs and shocks seemed to fit the later crossmember without any issues. What I can't explain is why this swap seemed to lower the front end of the truck by around an inch and a half. I actually had to block up the rear axle by that much to regain my original body rake proportions. Anybody have any explanation? As a side note the rear springs are stock height as well. I purchased them as a set with the front ones.

Re: Mystery Drop

How new is fairly new? Sometimes springs seem to sing once the start to break in. I know it's a long shot but that's all I can come up with! Lol

Re: Mystery Drop

Like a year old. But the drop occured right after the swap. I literally removed the stands, set it down and said what's the deal with the redneck rake? and I'm a redneck!

Re: Mystery Drop

The square body could of had drop spindles in it, we are starting to see a lot more show up in the wrecking yards now, I just haven`t been lucky enough to find a set though...

Re: Mystery Drop

What about the control arms? Was there any difference. Got to thinking the cup or lack of in the control arms could cause this.

Re: Mystery Drop

I can rule out drop spindles cause I had a pair already before I did the swap and noticed the difference and decided to go for stock. As for the a arms I didn't pay attention. Maybe the squarebody has taller ball joint?
