First let me state that tire and wheel sized confuse the heck out of me.
I just brought home a 66 C10 that is wearing P275/60R15 in the rear and P295/50R15 in the front. ![]() I am not a big fan of chrome wheels but for now its what it has. In fact the truck came with a full set (4) of the P275/60R15 and P295/50R15, wheel tire combos. So I am thinking about selling/trading the current tires and wheels and going to steel wheels. I also want to go with a larger and wide tire in the back than in the front and possible go with narrow white walls all the way round. So my question is what size wheel/tire combos should I run to acheive the look I am after?

Re: Tired and Confused
I don't have a 60-66 truck,... so you might have to ask your question over in that area.

Re: Tired and Confused
Do you want your tires to stick out past the fenders or stay tucked? You can also do a lot with different wheel backspacing.

Re: Tired and Confused
Those wheels on the back look like they are sticking out a bit, and from what you said the fronts have wider tires. Looks like the backspacing is different on the wheels. For starters, I wold put thefronts on the back, and then take two of the smaller tires and put them on the wheels that match, and stick them up front. I assune the wheels and tires you have in the back of the truck are the other ones that complete the sets. I would put two 295's and two 275's on each set of wheels, then you can see which wheel backspacing you prefer.

Re: Tired and Confused
I had 255/70's all around on my truck before I bagged it, and they looked great! Are you planning on lowering the truck?

Re: Tired and Confused
I squished some 325/50/15's on a 12 wide wheel. Definately staggered.

Re: Tired and Confused
I am not sure what sizes come with white walls, but if the 275/60's are good I would sell/chuck the rest and put 255/60 on the front or even 245/60. both will still have plenty of tread and be just a little shorter.

Re: Tired and Confused
I double checked and what is on the truck now are P225/70R15s in the front and P275/60R15s in the rear.
I was doing some research and was looking at P155/60R15s or P145/65R15s in the front with steelies. I would then just sell all of the others to pay for the two new front tires. How do you think that would look? ![]()

Re: Tired and Confused
155/60 or 145/65 are way too short to use on your truck. Plus I seriously doubt you can find those sizes with a white wall.
Those sizes are for lowered VW Beatles. Posted via Mobile Device

Re: Tired and Confused
The best I can tell by the pic you posted, you have 6 lugs on the rear and 5 on the front.....
Personally, I would get that sorted first.

Re: Tired and Confused
Smallest tire you need to run (my opinion) is 235/75/15. These are cheap, and easy to get in a whitewall. They look decent on all 4 corners with steelies. However, if you do have different lugs front and rear, I'm with Mr. LONGHAIR on addressing that first. Otherwise, it will lead to unnecessary confusion.

Re: Tired and Confused
Yes, but the 235's are close to what came on them originally. The front tires on there now look a little small to me, but you may like them.

Re: Tired and Confused
Unless you meant you have 5 lug all the way around, I'm with the other guys. You need to fix the different lug patterns since the front is obviously 5 lug from the pic you posted.
As Cubber had suggested, 235's came on your truck originally, so putting a narrower tire on it will not give you a favorable ride/handling. For traction and handling wider is almost always better. I can't think of when a narrower tire would be better, but I'm sure if I said "always" someone would point out my error. Your 225/70/15 tires are 1.5" shorter and 0.4" narrower than factory. Your 275/60/15 are 0.9" shorter and 1.5" wider than factory. A shorter tire will make your speedo read slower while taller reads faster. Width is really a handling/aesthetic feature. Good luck with your decision. Remember, you're the one that will need to be happy with your purchase.

Re: Tired and Confused
A great combo, which I have run on several of my trucks is....
235/75-15 in the rear. That is stock size. It keeps the gearing and speedo factory. 215/75-15 on the front. This is a bit shorter and narrower than the rear. Gives plenty of clearance for any future lowering you might do. The advantage to these sizes are that they are available in thin whitewalls from your local Discount Tire store. You can find them in both sizes in the same tire so tread and appearance are the same. And, they're cheap. You cant buy cheaper tires than those. I just bought a pair of the 215 whitewalls from Discount Tire for 126 dollars total out the door. Posted via Mobile Device |
