Tach question

Question. The tach in my truck quit working. When I open and shut the door the tach seems to jump a little. Sometimes when I start the truck he tach will work for a second or two then stop. Has anyone had these symptoms. The tach is a reproduction. I have not done anything to the truck execept boost the battery so I may have fried the tach but it does work momentarily sometimes for a second or two.

Re: Tach question

Normally the tach only has three wires to it. The power wire from the key or fuse panel. The tach signal wire from the distributor (HEI) or coil negative side (points), and the light in the tach. Make sure the tach body is grounded. The HEI connection could be loose, or the power connection might be bad. Can you try the tach on another vehicle?
