kickdown cable trouble

I need some help with this. The truck I just bought had the kickdown cable just sitting there. Its a 81 Chevy SWB w/ a 305HO and a TH350 trans. It's almost all original with low miles. The problem is that it had the wrong carb on it and I think that the last owner was trying to hookup the cable like it shows in the pic I have posted. The problem is that the cable is at the bottom of the bracket and the post it is to be mounted on is at the top of the lever which puts it at a bad angle. All the other trucks I have seen show it to be mounted at the bottom of the lever including my other truck (but I'm running an edelbrock). I am posting another pic also that I found on here from somebody else's post. It shows the cable hooked up the way I have it on my other truck, so the kickdown works opposite the throttle. Thanks

Another thing, the end of the cable (that long oval slider thing on the end made out of steal) mine is almost twice as long as the one in the pic above.

The pic above is where I have seen them mounted before. On my other truck the end is cut off and the wire is put through this thing with a set screw that snaps on to that stud. I have never had a problem with it. I don't know what the best way is to mount it is. I do want to mount it. I don't want to down shift all the time. Thanks

Am I mistaken, or do TH350s not have kickdown cables? Don't they have a vaccum modulator? It could be that your truck was originally equipted with a TH700R4 and for some reason the previous owner left the cable on there.

It has a cable as does my 86. The 400 trans don't have cables.

I have a similiar problem with my kickdown cable. I have adjusted it like my haynes manual said and it does not kick down, needless to say i dont take the truck in passing situations.... Do i need to get a new vacuum modulator?

i wouldnt think so if the truck is shifting, the kickdown cable pulls something in the valve body and makes it shift down a gear. might try it modulators around here are only like 12 bucks and then u get to go threw the pain of adjusting them
