opinions on window tint

Hey gang, my cab is just about ready to come home from the painters. As soon as I get it home, the front and rear windows are going in (to add space and prevent breaking them while working on the bed). I am tossing the idea around in my head about tinting the rear window, not the normal "dark" tint, but kind of a yellowish metallic color..to match the truck. My only concern is this will look gaudy and be a little too far "out there".

What are your opinions? I have only seen one truck running around that has a similar setup (a newer Dakota), thought it looked cool, but not sure how it would look on a 30 year old truck.

Soo, give me your opinions...pros & cons...and don't pull any punches!

I am not set in stone, the plain clear windows IMO look just as good on older trucks/cars.

I've seen what you're talking about on a fex of the Lexus smaller SUV's...it's like a goldish/bronze metallic looking tint. IMHO, I think that would look pretty damn cool on your truck...you could do it yourself at home too, just have to buy the tint.

Sounds like it may look ok, but that's one of those things you have to see first.

here is a similar example, different color, but same idea. The one I saw near here was more metallic-y and wasn't as transparent.

I think a dark tint would look better, especially with the bright yellow. My opinion, and you did ask for it, I think it would be too much of a good thing. You will need a little darker colors to go with it.

Then again, with not having seen anything like this in person, I'm not sure. It's one of those things you would need to see to give a good judgement on.

I'm gonna guess it is like the tint on some sunglasses... That would look neat, but be a bit too busy if you ask me... I would go with a darker color to provide some contrast

I would go with the smoke tint. What about the mirrored/chrome tint?

No no nooooooo!!! Please dont

Dont try to look like some ghetto 16 year old with blue tint on his blue civic. Keep it simple and clean, dark will look pretty dang nice with the yellow. To me... that kind of tint just screams rice.

i'd go with black

there may be to much yellow there, wisibility could be an issue, but it would look different. my brother in law had a red truck with a red metalic rear window and the top few inches of all the others it looked like it had to much of the same color, but it didnt look like every other red truck out there either

your truck looks great. I've never been much of a yellow fan, especially on trucks. Just seems to be too much yellow. Yours, however, looks good. It has a pretty cool look to it. I'd be afraid that yellow tint would be a bit much. Go with the normal black tinit. It would give a great contrast. I am gonna have 5% tint put on mine. Luv your truck

Just say No to the yellow tint. Tint the back and side windows a medium grey/black. They don't even need to be super dark and that will look best. The yellow would look ok for a while but would look trendy/faddish and you would get sick of it. The black is timeless and classy.

Cool

I would prefer a dark tint for contrast with the bright yellow. Tint should be as dark as the law allows. In Oregon, dark tints to a certain % are illegal. State troopers and other law enforcement entities don't like the dark tints, makes it kinda hard to see inside during the frequent stops they make.

My father has a Corvette Yellow '37 Chevy Coupe. It looks really good with dark grey (or smoke or black...) tint. I have seen a few vehicles with the colored tint, and have not liked any of them.

So the verdict is "NO" huh?

I am totally cool with that and after reading all the replies I will have to say i agree as well, and for the time being will not tint them.

In general, I am not a big fan of any kind of tint, so the jury is still out on the black tint...but we'll have to wait and see.

Thanks again for the help and kind words (Smokin86)!

Jeff, i'm going to go against the grain here. i think the truck might look good with a gold or geldon brown tint, providing your interior is tan. with a black interior, you'll want to go with something dark.

one of my friends worked at a tint shop and tinted my step-dad's truck for free. my brother washed the windows with windex about three days later. My friend was mad as hell. It was kinda funny. I felt bad for him though.

A way to darken up your cab, around local tint laws ( here in the sweet home alabama legal tint is 35% on driver/passenger windows and no limit on back windows) I tinted my entire windshield 32% along with the driver and passenger door and the back window limo 5%, most ppl cant tell and it depends on how strict they are in your area, if they have any tint laws. Every time I have got pulled over for tint they only have the side window tint testers, from my understanding the ones that do the front and back windows cost more. Good Luck, and you might wanna get some fog lights...LOL its really not that hard to see ar night,...i promise.

i think the picture you showed the tint in that doesnt look good and if i were you i would go with a black or smoke colored tint.it would look good and give some contrast since your truck is yellow.just my thoughts.
