i know how you feel man. but when you get it going everytime you hear those pipes sing you will be glad you went through it. i didnt think i was ever going to get mine running when i did my inline 6 to 350 swap

I feel this right now too.

I paid 2200 for a truck that wasn't road worthy, spent 2500 in parts for the drivetrain and diffs, then 1500 in tires, and now 3500 on a stroker... But it still LOOKS beat up and has rusty rockers. That's what sucks. All it would take is another 500 for body panels, a week in the driveway, and a day in the paint shop... Oh well. It seriously never ends. Ever.

I did hear somebody say once, though- "It's either parts or payments", and it makes me feel just a little better... loL!

Actually it can't be it has cast iron heads.The supplier that sold it and the shop that fitted said it was a roller cam motor and they are advertised in Australian ebay as hydraulic roller cam 330hp motors.

But GM does not list this combination any where I can find.?????

And so it continues both gas tanks are leaking,pitman and Idler arm are shot both discs need replacing all that is left now untouched is body (it's good) Starter motor gearbox and diff.

INCREASED HORSEPOWER FINDS ALL THE WEAK SPOTS FAST.

I figure it's a keeper so just keep going until the mechanicals are all done.budgeted to do the motor and gearbox when buying it anyway just not expecting all the other stuff.

yeah, few years ago my crew hit that stage where everything but engine & axles started going. fix something & 2 more crop up. it can get depressing, but when people walk up to you & go "sweet truck!", all that aggravation is quickly forgotten.

There are the major fixes

$600 in paint (and supplies)
$4300 for the 383 Stroker
$600 in new body panels/work

but what will get me and are sneaky are the little $20 or under items you grab to spruce up the truck.

The truck to me was free, but i think my Dad paid like $17K or so for it, but that was off the showroom LOL All i know is mom was shocked at the $350 car payment for 60 months on it.

My wife is on me all the time about spending on mine. I have 5 that something is needing something done on all the time. A 71,72,82 86 & 87.Not including her Honda Van. Its new so all it needs is cleaned up.

She starts every month about selling all of them because of insurance but all were paying is her van,the 72 and the 86.

For the years I have owned my truck, it has cost me $1800 year in repairs when averaging it out [including cosmetic repairs/changes]. (not only that, insurance rates here depend on year, newer=higher rates). Yeah, I've had the heart stopping bills, but I've also had years where I didn't do more than change oil and brakes. If you plan on owning for the long haul, old is the way to go.

The square here, my folks gave it to me, they paid about $17,000 for it (new in 82) other than maintenance items it has needed a couple rotors, a coil, heater core and 2 ESC brain boxes.

I just now have to take care of the neglect issues, trying to find a way to fix the cancer on the bed without breaking the bank, i don't think i have to tear her down to the frame just yet.

But the auto-body guy in town quoted about $4500 in labor to replace the door, fix the rust (fix without body filler) with patch panels, redo the floor pans, then prime/paint and do the rhino liner in the bed and possibly the floorboards (i'm having a serious thought on this so don't flip out) And i may after i get the underside cleaned up have rhino liner put inside the wheel wells.

Amen to that! The only problem is when u have both eventually one starts getting jealous and starts acting. I know my truck quit because I was spending too much time with my wife!
