1966 - Anyone identify this gauge and other rare dash items.

Went out to a salvage yard today to get a few pictures of some steering columns and hit the jackpot on a full in Dash AC system complete. Then I ran across this beauty with just about every bell and whistle.

On the dash in this gauge cluster I have never see the Air gauge on the left. Also if you look to the right of the dash there is a second under dash ash tray and a cigarette lighter I have never seen before. It all looks factory, but never knew these were options.

Also, i've read the bigger trucks had an air gauge there for air brakes, but this looks like a c10?

Re: 1966 - Anyone identify this gauge and other rare dash items.

Yes its a C10 and no the guy would only sell the whole truck. I would have bought it but have no place to store it. Believe or not he had another parts truck that had a whole AC unit as well that I yanked. I wish I had taken pictures of the outside, but it does have the 327 and all the original compressor and brackets.

He was asking $3500 for the entire truck. Quite a bit of rust on the usual places. The cab items and engine are about the only things i would think worth it.

This is the one I ended up pulling today. Was able to get the entire unit in the cab plus everything under the hood. Compressor, brackets, evaporator, dryer, blower, etc for $450. Not to bad.

Here is how that truck ended up at the wrecking yard;

A young couple bought this cute little farm house and found this old truck out in the carriage house.
The young man wants to park his Toyota there, so calls the local wrecking yard to ask how much they would charge to haul the piece of junk off.

The wrecking yard only charged this young couple $200 to tow it off.

I believe that is an air temp gauge. tells you how hot it is. not a standard option. but if you look through LMC or mags like that. they give you an option to buy an ambient air temperature gauge.

Wrong! its a air pressure gauge that usually came on the bigger trucks....some guys use them in c10's for their air bag system...i sold a whole dash cluster setup like that with tach and air gauge on ebay I got paid nicely for it..

I mean i could be totally wrong, I def wasn't around back when these trucks were new. But unless LMC doesn't sell the factory stock gauge to replace it which was for air pressure. they sell an identical sticker to that one for refreb. Non the less my knowledge is limited. Thank you for the correction ^.^

ya lmc sells the refacing decals for that gauge they repop the tach but not the air gauge yet ,the air gauge has been a topic on this forum a few times in the past, the air gauges came out of the larger type C60-C80 trucks with air brakes using the search function at the top of the forum i found some old posts you can check out :

My 64 has a big ac box under the dash and everything under the hood looks factory, whats the story with that?

Looking at the cig. lighter on the passenger side dash it has a pointed center on the knob, the lighter knob looks different then the drivers side cig. lighter knob(or any of the other trucks ive seen that ive owned or looked at) and also different then any of the other of the knobs for the a/c , heater setup either on that truck....i dont think chevy would have made a one off knob for just the pass. side (it could possibly have had a different knob replaced in the original lighter socket) but my bet is either someone added that lighter there and found a extra ash tray and bolted it there or maybe possibly at the buyers request the dealership added it there before they sold it to the new owner....i seriously doubt that came from factory ....if you looked under the dash and investigate the lighter housing you might see if its different or same as the stock lighter housing on the drivers side and if you traced the wire its probably spliced in somewhere rather then being wired into the factory wiring harness...just my 2 cents

Re: 1966 - Anyone identify this gauge and other rare dash items.

Next time I'm out there I will have to look under and follow that wire on the second lighter.

I blew up my one pic that has the extinguisher in it and it does not look like a GM one.

As for the Air brakes gauge you are probably correct. I do remember seeing a black box down to the left that looked like a control mechanism for brakes. Again when I go back out there I will take some more pictures.

The knobs on the additional A/C controls and the knob on the left of the glovebox are exactly the same as the ones I have on all of mine in my '62. I was thinking that they were off an Impala or something. Now I'm wondering if they were an additional option available.

Post up some pictures of the interior (with the AC box) and under the hood. We'll help you figure it out.
