Question Has anyone Done this?

Just curious If anyone has takin a 67-72 body and put it on a '73-87 4x4 frame. What changes were made to make it fit? I ask this because I have an oppertunity to get a free frame with 350 engine, and want to know if it will work. Thanks

Jason

I've done three of these swaps and they look good.First, turn the rear cab mounts to the out side of thr frame and move the mount hole about 1 nch inward taward the drive lineYou my need to trim alittle off the mount because our cabs tapper down and they hit the edgeof the mount. You'll need to remove the saddle tanks but they won't fit our cabs anyway. Then from the front mount you need to go 1inch out and one inch forward of the original mount hole for the front of the cab.You will need to make a body lift for the front off the cab or raise the mount.you then need to weld a 6x6 pad,not very thick about 1/16 to the top of the leaf spring, radiator bracket on the front. Here you'll need a 4 inch lift spacer to the radiator support, don't forget to add in your bushing thickness's.The back off the cab will sit flush(about 3/4 to 1 inch above the frame. Then you will need to move your rear spring hangers forward 1 1/4 inches,BUT ONLY FOR A LONGBED!, short bed will line up.you will need to place 2 inch blocks under the bed to match the body line with the cab.The easyiest way I've found to get the bodyline right is the mount the bed and the rear of the cab then lift the front end up till the body line matches and then build the corrected mounts you need for the front of the cab and radiator support.I hope this helps and not hinders.Remember you now have somewhat of a body lift so a 6 inch spring lift will clear 36 in tires no brob.
