Gas tank problems
So i have a 72 jimmy that i have got on the road lately and noticed a few problems lately:
1st: while filling the tank i noticed gas is dripping on the ground. I am assuming that the filler neck has a leak but from where??? 2nd: My gauge is not reading the amount that is in the tank. at first the gauge was reading as grounded, but i cleared that but now the gauge reads empty. For both of these what do i look for and/or what do i replace if need be. ANY HELP PLEASE |

Re: Gas tank problems
I have the same problem when filling my tank. From what I've heard from my father who has owned a 77 1ton dually for 35 years, my millwright boss who has had a chevy almost his whole life and other millwrights that own older chevy's that just what they do. dont top it off or else itll slosh over. this is due to the flawed design of the gas tank nozzle. also why you need the touch to keep it pumping with out the nozzle shutting off. īm personally going to get an 80's bed with the flap gas tank covers to elimate this problem.

Re: Gas tank problems
There is a rubber piece that connects the filler to the gas tank neck, check there. Unknown on the gauge question

Re: Gas tank problems
Thank you all for the responses. I am probably going to replace the hose, because when i am filling towards the end it drips a good shot glass of gas. As for the tank indicator I will probably buy a new assembly or try to find a nice tank.

Re: Gas tank problems
Mine leaks too. Hose leaking somewhere in the filler neck connection. Lookin under mine I see a copper pipe coming outta tank. Have no idea what p.o. (Prior owner) was trying. But it is what it is. I'll have to get under there and figure out mine as well. Wish the new tanks came with filler necks

Re: Gas tank problems
If yours leaks only when completely full it is likely one of your vent lines

Re: Gas tank problems
I had a leak up near the filler neck and it turned out to be rubber fuel lines up under the filler neck. An easy fix with new lines and easy to get to. Takes 5/16" fuel line. The use of rubber fuel line is probably due to body flex while moving.
I too have problems with my fuel guage... it reads OVER Full when I plug it into the wiring harness. I could use advise on this problem. |
