Repro Dash Pads

So who's got the hot ticket on replacement dash pads? I need two. Been trying to score an OEM unit from the PNP, but as you might have guessed...they're all pretty thrashed.

I've heard the urethane units are junk. Anyone have any good luck with a repro unit lately?

[Not looking for a "cap"...looking for an actual "pad"]

Re: Repro Dash Pads

The urethane dash I got on my last build was far from junk, it wasn't the quality of an OEM dash and I had to trim it some to fit, but for 1/3 the price it will more than suffice on my next build too.

Re: Repro Dash Pads

I bought this one from Summit, it's urethane and perfect especially considering it was just under $200.
I'm curious what you have heard about urethane pads that makes them "bad"?

Re: Repro Dash Pads

Some of the urethane units are floppy and saggy with no support brace. That's prob what he's referring too.

There was a big thread on this and so far there was a few dashes everyone liked but weren't completely satisfied.

That's the one I bought. It wasn't "floppy", just not completely stiff. When installed it had the slightest wave but wasn't noticeable unless you knew where to look.

The one I bought has a metal backing sheet just like the orig that came out of my truck, nothing floppy what so ever. I think they all have the vent holes because the non ac insert does cover it, my truck is non ac.

Re: Repro Dash Pads

I saw a thread a while back where a few guys were saying the urethane units they bought were real floppy and sagging.

Where'd you get it? Brand? Price?

Honestly, my trucks are drivers, not show pieces. If you guys say the urethane units are a good compromise, I'd have no issue running one.

Never again.

Find an oem dash pad or buy a NOS one.
Shipping is expensive if you don't find one locally.

Re: Repro Dash Pads

Doesn't look like Classic Parts even sells the junk "eurothane" dash pads anymore.
I'd like to know what their $329 dash pads look like.

The one from Summit is from OER parts, it's perfect and just like an original. I'll see if I can (remember) to take pictures tomorrow.

Re: Repro Dash Pads

I've been to PaP and there are "certain" individuals that bend the dash pads in half just to get to the speaker!..MORONS! Or they totally destroy an instrument cluster to get the speedometer out!

Re: Repro Dash Pads

I refer to those guys as the "Rock and Hammer" crews because it seems like those are the only tools they bring with them.

Funny you mentioned speedos. I found a nice cable-driven speedo w/ the trip meter on it the other day. Pulled the cluster without breaking it, unscrewed the lens, saved all the little screws, extracted the speedo, put all the little parts back into the cluser and placed the whole unit on the floor of the truck. While I was doing this, the guy next to me was taking a battery-powered sawzall to a set of doors in a late model F-150 (presumably to get to the window regs). :smh:
