vent window glass tape

I purchased a door seal kit from Brothers. It came with all the vent window seals. I'm assembling the windows and there is a roll of glass tape to set the vent window glass into the frame. How to you get the glass and tape to fit into the frame?

Kevin, a glass installer suggested I toss the tape and use a sealer instead, on my '66. (Ask an installer for enough of type he uses to do 2 glasses.) It worked well--just the expected mess to scrape excess with razor blade & thinner, after drying. I had previously practiced just a bit with tape, & saw a problem: sliding "against" one perimeter and "into" another at the same time [due to the (tri)angular shape]--tried to 'bunch up' on me! Finished job looks completely factory and great.
I had previously thought about 'gluing' tape to glass and letting it dry and 'set up'. Then use thin layer of 'glue', only in channel, not on tape, as a lubricant in channel to allow 'taped glass' to slide into place. Next time, I'd go again with mere sealant, no debating in my mind at all.
HTH,
Sam

Re: vent window glass tape

I had better luck using electrical tap to set my glass, had to cover the egde with two layers but that too works well, I sealer is messy but does work too.

The settign tape is WAY to stuff to make the corners fit right.

Re: vent window glass tape

Glad to know I'm not the only one that struggled with this. Would a local parts store sell the adhesive?

Re: vent window glass tape

Spay glass cleaner on the tape before you set it in the frame.

Re: vent window glass tape

Have done a few rebuilds on these. Wrap setting tape over edge of glass, use electrical tape in several location to hold setting tape in place. Spray window cleaner, or light soapy water on setting tape. On a cardboard covered sturdy surface lay exposed edge of glass, apply frame on glass, tap frame with rubber mallet to set onto glass. The setting tape will bunch in the corners, trim off excess retap glass to secure fit.
