59 fleetside longbed build
Hey guys. I just picked up a 59 GMC longbed fleet for my son for him to work on. We've had it a week and he's gotten it all sanded and ready to prime for the 1st time. Anyways my question is the most cost effective way to get disk brakes up front and to lower the stance a little, not a lot.
The truck has a SB 350 in it so I need it to stop well and ride decent. Since he's doing this with his money we need to be effecient. Looking for ideas as I have really no clue what the best route is to go. Also he has little to no experience but I want him to learn so easier is better as well. Just looking for the right combo. Thanks. |

You can lower it cheaply by removing some of the leaf springs. It won't ride as nice as with Posie's Super Slide springs but it will be lower. Just FYI, I bought a CPP disc brake kit new in the box for $200 off Craigslist and only recently a CPP manual master cylinder kit for $150 the same way. BUT...I had to wait literally years to find these two kits. If I were in a hurry I'd have had to spend a lot more. |

Here is a much cheaper option. Its cheaper mostly because it gives you the option to stay with manual, non power assist brakes. You would still need to do a new dual master as most will recommend and a proportioning valve. So say add another $120 to that kit plus some fittings and line adapters.

Even cheaper than that would be THIS kit, but you have to go scrounge for (I think) Camaro calipers at the junkyard:
