Steering gear box

Just replaced the steering gear box on my 77 SWB C-10. Hooked the lines up and the pressure line (front line) leaks like crazy. The new gear box had fittings different from the stock one. I removed one of the fittings from the new gear box, but the compression end is part of the fitting. Any suggestions???

Re: Steering gear box

I don't know about the fittings being different, but I had to do a line on the road a few years ago and it took me like 10 try's to get the o-ring to seat.
Nothing like being in a dirt parking lot on a 100 degree day getting scalding hot PS fluid all over your hands and arms... repeatedly!

Re: Steering gear box

You could have a steering box for 80 to 87

73 to 79 used a different fitting

Re: Steering gear box

Any suggestions on how to retrofit this box without having to change it out again?

Re: Steering gear box

Swap to a matching o ring hose out of a later truck to match the later steering box you installed. You'll also need the fitting out of the back of the later pump too as its also o ring to match the later hose. The fitting unscrews with a 1 inch wrench and swaps directly into your earlier pump in place of your flare type fitting.
