Re: My DD LWB to SWB build

I have shortened a lot of frames over the years and prefer to do an N cut removing 12" from under the cab then fish plated with a piece of formed 8 gauge 3/16 meterial then move the rear cab mounts back and finally removing 8" off the tail. I have heard of it being done this way but never seen it. Lookin good!

Re: My DD LWB to SWB build

hey franky, i was looking at your welds and i noticed mine looked like that awhile back...it looks as though when you were welding it didnt get hot enough and it just piled the weld up....im not trying to cut you down...im just saying mine looked like that and then i found that my welder was setup for sheetmetal. i had to swap the 2 cables in the box. the neg and pos cables. after that i could weld 3/16 with good penetration and it didnt pile it up....may want to try that and see if it helps any....now i feel like i can tackle more fabrications now and wanted to pass that along....let me know if you need any help

Reversing polarity, posative ground is used for fluxcore wire ( gasless wire ) great for in the wind welding and has a higher tensil strenth than solid core wire. Solid core ( negative ground ) requires a gas and there are many differant mixes. I prefer 75/25.

I like the way the truck sits now! I would get the paint one solid color and install your wheel well trim before deciding on dropping it more. Those two details might make you reconsider the drop... Whatever you decide to do, I'll be checking in. Good work so far!

exactly right! i was using fluxcore and on anything bigger than sheetmetal it was gobbing up and not flowing together. i guess mine was set up for solid when i got it from the pawn shop. i have the positive cable going to the clamp and it is 100 times better. i wanted to make sure franky's welder was setup like he needs it...thanks

Truck looks good, I take it that cutting a long wheel base truck to short wheel base is the same as making a crew cab long bed to a crew cab short bed? I like the way laid the step cut out.

Re: My DD LWB to SWB build

Sorry haven't given any updates, no camera but I did get a another bed cuz the one in my pics on the first page had to much rust and needed to much body work, so I found a pretty clean bed with zero rust on CL for $100, last week I did lower the rear a lil more put a c-notch in which I made myself dyed all my interior black and right now I'm working on the body work so it could be one color and I plan on painting it maybe a 2012-13 silverado white gonna try to get a camera soon.Posted via Mobile Device

Re: My DD LWB to SWB build

I have a white with back interior 87, yours is looking good!

What were you using before the c-notch? I just lowered my front 4" and want the look you had before you lowered the truck more. I have one leaf spring out which gives me an 1". I think at this point I think I am planning a shackle hanger kit...
