Wipers don't move on dry glass.

85 gmc vin m/ new window wiper motor

Non intermediate wipers, only high and low with washer spray. I have proper amperage when window wiper motor is under load. 2.5a for low and 5a for high. With no wiper arms on the motor it's fine. If the window is wet its fine. But besides that the wipers get stuck and The motor gets wicked hot. Anyone got any ideas?

Mine are the same way..The water acts as a lubricant and they work ok.

I try not to use them when it's not raining...lol

Yeah same here. I hate it. So ghetto lol. I want it to be right. So frustrating. I'm about to buy a starter motor and wire it up with a manual switch and have one torquey ass speed.

Maybe try silicone wiper blades?

Lame, the wipers are new. Anyone got a wiring diagram of the wiper motor.

Just looking at your post, I would get a new motor.

Re: Wipers don't move on dry glass.

Sodell is correct, I had the same issue on a 78 and once I put in a new wiper motor that fixed the issue apparently like the electric window motors they get weak over time.

Re: Wipers don't move on dry glass.

Thanks for input but read my original post. New window wiper motor. Linkage is all good and lubed up. Works awesome with wiper arms off. Won't move arms when I put them onto motor unless window is wet

Re: Wipers don't move on dry glass.

Either I'm putting a starter motor/toggle switch combo one speed or finding a newer compatible motor. The motor is brand new. This is lame

Re: Wipers don't move on dry glass.

Maybe the springs in the wiper arms are too tight creating too much tension between the wipers and glass

Re: Wipers don't move on dry glass.

Try some of this glass scrub. I got it from AutoZone. Even claims to improve wiper performance. Works great! Did all my trucks. Double check all your wiring too. Too much resistance in the switch, power feed or ground will cause this too.....

Re: Wipers don't move on dry glass.

Just because the motor is "new" does not mean that it is any good.
"Assuming" that the new part couldn't still be the problem is short-sighted.

Been there, in fact that is one of the first things I would check.

Re: Wipers don't move on dry glass.

One wiper arm is new. I'm going to try an out washers below the wiper arms so I can raise them a little higher and hopefully create less resistance. Mabe I will look into that window scrub stuff. I did razor clean the window...
