air conditioning for chevy pickup ?

Hello all,

i want to install air conditioning for my chevy pickup 51...

is there any posibilty to use some original chevrolet technic such from the camaro e.g. ?

I know there is an easy and functional way with vintage air products, but itīs also very costly..

I hope there are some cheaper alternative solution ?

Thanks for ur help

Re: air conditioning for chevy pickup ?

Most GM stock cars and trucks A/C units where placed outside of the firewall and don't lend themselves to retro fit to old trucks. Don't know in Germany if you have wrecking yards that have early Japan imports such as Toyota's or Datsun (Nissan) but they are small in size and can possibly be fitted to the older cabs. A measuring tape is your friend here good luck!

Re: air conditioning for chevy pickup ?

I used a new under-dash unit, and all new parts (condensor, dryer, compressor). Made my own hoses at Orielly's. Came out to just under $600 for the complete setup. My build thread (below) has details.

Re: air conditioning for chevy pickup ?

I'd search through the small cars you have there that might have small heat/ac units under the dash or possibly ones that have small add on units.

I'd think that there were some small entry level cars sold in Europe that didn't come with AC or were often ordered without ac and the owner had ac installed later.

The only thing you may have to order from the US or might be easier to find in the US should be the brackets to mount the compressor on the engine.
