what converts from 73-87?
I'm thinking about buying a 1973 1/2 ton 2wd for the motor and misc. parts. Does anyone know if the headers will fit my 72. how about the rear axle width difference if any. How 'bout motor mounts?

Re: what converts from 73-87?
I believe the headers will interchange/fit, thru 1987 (square body). The rear end in the '73 to '75's is supposed to be the same width as the '70-72's. 1960-69 rear ends are about an inch narrower.
However, 1973-up rear ends are leaf-sprung, not coil sprung. If your '72 is a leaf spring rear, probably no issues.

You can also swap the front disc but since you already have them, you could recoup some cost by selling them.

Re: what converts from 73-87?
I put a '76 12 bolt rearend under my '70 2wd gmc. I had to cut off the leaf spring perches and weld on a set of trailing arm perches and adjustable panhard bar that I got from CPP. The width was actually about 3/4" wider than my stock rearend ( I had the wider rear in mine). If fit really well and my Boss 338's fit like a glove.
I also used the front upper & lower control arms, steering pieces/parts, spindles, and swaybar. I also used the master cylinder. Posted via Mobile Device |

I went to look at the doner truck and it wasn't worth half of what they were asking. Way to cobbled up. When I came home and saw my truck in the driveway, it looked mint after seeing what a hack job some people are capable of. I'm really happy she's still a virgin other than a floor shifter conversion.
