Re: Anyone have every seen these rims before

These are spokes or wagon wheels as they were sometimes called. Most of them were painted white, but some were aluminum.

They're Jackman wheels. Don't throw them away. They're worth a bunch more money than you might think.

Likely no calls cause peeps think they're way overpriced steel wagon wheels which you can buy new for way less money.
Jeep guys used them back in the day. Good strong wheel for off-road cruisin'.

This eBay seller is in the business of restoring these vintage wheels to perfection, using CNC milling to take out dings, scuffs, and curb rash.
Not to mention buffing them to an almost mirror shine.

I don't think this is a good way to gauge the worth of your wheels, unless you'd like to put in the amount of hours necessary to get them to this level...

Re: Anyone have every seen these rims before

that is where the term mags came from, because they were made of magnesium

Are they really made of magnesium? Or a blend with aluminum?
I would be suspicious of a rim made of magnesium because my gramps said on the aircraft carrier they would push the burning wrecks overboard because the magnesium would catch and burn all the way through the deck. I wonder if that is true but if it is then wouldn't mag rims be kinda dangerous? I weld it from time to time and it seems fine...hmmmm

Re: Anyone have every seen these rims before

The original magnesium ones where an alloy with magnesium being the higher percentage.
Halibrand and a few others made them. Even aluminum can be dangerous in a fire. It explodes and spreads molten droplets everywhere.
They likely pushed the burning wrecks off because of the ease of the fire speading due to the super heated metals exploding.
BTW the original Halibrand's are worth a mint if you find some.
