HEADER WRAP? Pros & Cons
Got a question for you all. Header wrap has anyone ever had it catch on fire. Mine did today I was ale to blow it out, but now I'm concerned. I've run my truck a good bite with no problems. but today when I shut it off it sounded like it was trying to backfire before the engine stop running. I had the hood rised and when I looked down I saw the header wrap near the oil filter on fire. Anyway just wanted to see if anyone else has had any bad experience with it themselves. Thanks

I've had a 350 and a 454 with wrapped headers, never had any issues. I am completely Pro for header wrap - it looks awesome and does a great job keeping the heat where it's supposed to be.

I header wrapped mine and I think as long as you seal it with the high temp silicon spray so the flammables don't absorb into the wrap you will be good. At least that is what I am banking on. First fire up tomorrow.

The main problem with header wrap on street vehicles is that it causes pipes to rust out.

They rust out from the moisture in the air plus any puddles you hit or car wash you go thru. I would only use them in a drag racing app.

Almost all header manufacturers will void any warranty if their headers are wrapped.
The most common mistake made is most do not install it correctly.. I agree that the wrap should be used for racing applications only. |
