Dual tanks desirable?
I've seen a bunch of comments about dual tanks lately, are they a desirable thing or undesired? I personally don't like the look of 2 gas lids on the bed.

Re: Dual tanks desirable?
Yep.
I've got one 16 gallon tank (probably 12 gallons useable) so I have to visit the gas station just about every-other day. K

Re: Dual tanks desirable?
Hm, I was unaware. My dad's truck wasn't so I was contemplating removing the dual tanks and the bed.

I wish I had them. Gas does not last long.

Re: Dual tanks desirable?
If you don't drive a lot, single tank is cleaner, and probably not much inconvenience.
If I don't fuel up both tanks, I have to stop daily for fuel. |

I love them. But of coarse the more options the better right?

Re: Dual tanks desirable?
I've got a single 16 gallon tank on my daily driver (not a squarebody) and I hate it, it seems like I am always getting gas. It's a real pain on long-haul drives because I only get about 250 miles before I need to stop for gas. With a larger/dual tank I would have more options and wouldn't be forced to stop at these little towns that target drive-through traffic and charge $4.55 per gallon.
It's a good thing my squarebody has dual 20-gallon tanks, because it gets significantly worse mileage than my DD. If that guy had a single 16 gallon, I'd probably only have a useable range of 100 miles. Just driving Reno to Vegas I would have to stop at literally every town I came across and pay their ridiculous gas prices.

Re: Dual tanks desirable?
I hear ya!!! My 81 K35 Crew with 454 only has one tank that's usable now, tank switch is kaput. After around 2 hours driving or around 100 miles, you better be looking for a gas station. The 6.2 diesel does way better...

Re: Dual tanks desirable?
I love mine, that was one of the first things I made sure was working after I bought my truck, a quick swap out of the switching valve and both tanks work. The only pain in the butt is filling up both tanks in one stop.

Re: Dual tanks desirable?
The two biggest things these trucks need is dual tanks and overdrive. If you have it you would be wise to keep it.

Re: Dual tanks desirable?
Unless you drive the truck only occasionally, you really need dual tanks. Even a 350 will eat up gas quickly. My 454 C20 has only delivered 11 mpg at best in city driving, which is the only place I drive, with lots of idling at stoplights. The other two 350 C20s I have owned got similar gas mileage. C10s should get slightly better mileage. It does take $100 + to fill up both tanks, but I avoid the psychological damage by using a credit card.
I have a dump bed conversion so I pull up to the gas pumps close on the passenger side, then lift the bed and pass the gas nozzle over the frame rails to fill the driver's side, then pass the nozzle back to fill the passenger side. I get the opportunity to answer questions from fellow customers about the dump conversion while I am pumping gas. |

Re: Dual tanks desirable?
My truck only came with a single tank on the driver side. It doesn't bother me much as I get 18-20 mpg from it so I usually only have to fill up once a week.. Ls swap ftw!! Haha
