Lowering options for the rear
I have a 72 C10 SWB that is currently lowered in the front with 2.5" drop spindles and 3" springs. Rear is 5" lowering springs with 2" lowering blocks.
The rear suspension is very short and "bangs" over minor bumps. I have been told to c notch the frame with a kit to improve the travel. Is there options other than bagging that will improve the ride without cutting the frame? Posted via Mobile Device |

You have 7 in of drop.There just isn't enough room for suspension travel.Even with bags,you will only have a very small amount of clearance for suspension travel.You can either raise the truck or C-notch,there just aren't any other options that I can think of.You might improve it by getting rid of the blocks but you may still bottom out on big bumps.And you will only have 5 in of drop.

@ kenyanr1. I plan on painting it very similar to your truck! Love the two tone. We are going with the original blue and the Cadillac white (triple diamond tri-coat)

I know you said "other than bagging" but it would be way easier to remove the springs and bolt in two bags fed by a single line with a shrader valve. Changing the ride height is a quick stop at the gas station air pump.

I'm new to the site and I've only owned my 69 for a few months. so I'm not sure of the rear frame accessability. That being said I C notched my 49 ford, and it really is a simple modification. Does anyone make a kit for these trucks? As for the process, you weld in your arches, then cut out the frame, add your inner piece, assuming you're confident with your welding skills.

Actually I know there are bolt in c-notch kits.IIRC Porterbuilt does one.There are also weld in kits but if you bolt it in before you cut the frame,you lessen the risk of not getting it straight.

I thought you had to cut the frame before the c-notch would fit properly. How can you bolt it in before cutting?

The kit should come in 4 pieces, 2 side rails, a top cap and a lower cap. Your measure wear your axle would make contact with the frame to center the kit, tack weld the top cap to the side caps on a bench, slide that assembly over the frame, measure again, weld the side plates to the frame, weld the top cap solid. Cut out your frame, and weld in the lower cap. Undercoat it and you're done
