frame tabs and body dilema
yesterday i posted a thread and i did get one answer from Capt Kaos and i need to re ask this in a new way.
I have a 1976 C10 which has a bad body and bad body mount tabs for the front mounts. I have a 1985 cab which is in good shape and i have a 1981 C20 frame which the cab i have was originally mounted to what i want to know now is if i take off the tabs on the 81 and bolt them to the 1976 will they fit right on the 76 chassis and then i could use the new style body mounts to put the cab to the front tabs and old style to the rear body mounts and my 85 cab would fit and mount to my 1976 frame with the 81 front cab mount tabs??

The frame tabs should fit the frame. If you are inclined to put them on there, match the body mount to the frame tab. In other words if the first tab is from the old frame use that model bushing. If the next one down the frame is a new one, match it with a new bushing. I haven't ever done this, so I have no idea what the results will be. I can go look at the 87 vs 73 frame, but since you have the same you could do that also.
I would check to make sure that the bushings are going to mount with the proper spacing, and that the mounts are going to mount correctly also. I don't "think" the mounting location is different, but the bushings are. Am I rambling......

ok now just for the heck of it i got my frame tabs from the guy who bought the chassis i had layin here. that was the 81 chassis with the 85 cab on it and after laying these 81 tabs on the 76 chassis i have on the truck im rebuilding right up next to the existing 76 tabs, it looks like it will fit . the rivets seem to be in the same place and the mounting tabs are the same size so now friday ( if i can move after this thanksgivng thing) we are going to drop the existing body off of the 76 truck and see what we can do to place the 81 tabs on and again we will use the body mounts on the front cab then for the 81-87 chassis and the 73-80 mounts on the rear part of the chassis to the back end of the cab
i will let ya know how it all works out in the end

just for whatever worthless info its worth lol you can take off the tabs from a newer generation (81-87 truck) and nut and bolt them to a older generation truck (73-80) and use the body mounts that correspond to the frame tabs and it will work just fine i used grade 8 bolts to do it and tightened it up as well as we could with air tools.Theframe tabs are the same exact things just different holes where the body mount goes through
