Sport Bumper

I was looking and it appears that summit racing is selling the rear standard bumper that I am looking for. It does not come with the brackets but they sell some and was wondering if they are correct. I found the license plate holder thru LMC and it was $60. Has anyone purchased the brackets from a parts house and were they good? I've found nothing used.

My brackets are from LMC and they fit perfect.

Re: Sport Bumper

You might want to try carpartsoutlet on ebay. They have a 73-80 bumper for $115 free shipping. I don't know if they have 81-87 bumpers. It looks like they sell brackets also. I have a nice OEM license bracket/holder for $25 plus shipping. I only have 73-80 brackets right now.

Re: Sport Bumper

Save yourself some serious $$$ and go to pull-a-part and grab a complete rear bumper off a suburban. Even if you wanted the new chrome and dont want to use the burb bumper (which is the same as a sport style truck one) the plate holder and outer brackets are the same and will let you mount it on your truck at lower cost. Inner brackets are different, but you can go without those in the short term and either hunt them down or order them repop....

Re: Sport Bumper

I was wondering about the suburban bumper. The pull a parts here listed 8 suburbans and the little yard where I get parts from has 3 so I will check that out. Not a fan of the bumper strip but what they heck. If it saves some dough then I can learn to like them.

I have an original license plate holder for half their price if you want to come get it.

Re: Sport Bumper

I just picked up a used one last weekend. Took it off of a Blazer. The two outer brackets worked fine, but the inner were different. It didn't have the rubber strip.

I pulled mine of a Suburban at the local PnP. It had the impact strip, which I removed, so the little slots are there, but for $50, it looks a helluva lot better than the ghetto-nasty step bumper that was on it.

I always intended to replace it with a nice, smooth repro unit (and still might one day), but honestly, the slots don't bother me enough to dump $150 on a new one any time soon.

Re: Sport Bumper

I got one. It was off a 90 Suburban. Pretty good shape but for $50 for everything I could not pass it up. It had the pad on it of course but it also had holes on top as well as the back. Well, I cured that problem seeing that the sport bumper can be slick, I put a piece of grip tape on it so I killed two birds with one stone. I have a piece of trim to cover up the other holes. We will see how that goes.
