Clearance Question Help - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

So here is my problem..............I have a 69 1/2 ton chevy 2wd with a 350 and 3 on the tree..... I want to put a set of headers on it down the road (I have chevy angle plug heads)....... but my starter took a crap on me yesterday and I don't know if headers will clear the stock starter if I buy a rebuilt stocker. So here are my questions: Who makes a good fitting header for the 350 in my truck and also was wondering if anyone has run into this problem and if the stock starter works or if I need to buy a small gear drive starter. thanks for any enlightenment.

The only headers that will work with the angle plug heads are the Hooker supercomps...I have made others"fit" but the supercomps fit like a dream

And the super comps will clear a stock header. You'll have to remove the header to do a remove/install on that starter, but it'll clear ones all said and done.

I'VE HAD HOOKER COMPS. & SUPER COMPS. ON BOTH BIG BLOCKS & SMALL BLOCKS IN PICKUPS & BLAZERS, & WAS ABLE TO CHANGE OUT STARTER WITHOUT EVEN LOOSENING THE HEADERS. I'VE HAD THE BEST LUCK WITH HOOKER & DOUG THORLY HEADERS, & WOULD RECOMEND BOTH WHOLEHARTEDLY.

thanks for the info guys, it is much appreciated. Was still wondering if you all ran with the stock starter? I'm just curious cuz I have to buy one tommorrow and I don't want to buy another one when I put my headers on. ( I know that in some circumstances the starter will rub the headers.)

Maybe I didn't try hard enough. With only a muffler bolted to the header, it is pretty easy to just take it all off instead of squeezing into tight spots. (It's also been 2 years since I did this)
However, I do have a generic stock replacement starter on my truck.

I USED THE FULL SIZE STOCK STARTERS ALSO. NOW DON'T GET ME WRONG.... I'M NOT SAYING IT WAS A CAKEWALK WITH TONS OF ROOM, & THERE WASN'T ANY CUSSING INVOLVED, BUT I NEVER HAD TO REMOVE ,OR EVEN LOOSEN UP MY HEADERS. GOOD HEADERS ARE A GODSEND, & MONEY WELL SPENT, WHILE I'D RATHER BE BEATEN BLOODY WITH A TRANNY DIPSTICK, THAN FIGHT WITH CHEAP HEADERS.

I agree 100%...same statement goes for spark plug chainges too.
