350 & 700r4 value
Hey guys, I'm thinking about buying this engine / transmission combo but haven't got a clue what it's worth. I copied the below info off his post. What you think?
His post: I'm thinking about selling my current combo to a friend and doing a ls swap sooner than expected. I just bought the truck a few months ago so all the info is from the PO. Here's what I know according to him 350 4 bolt main with around 55k total miles. 3k ish miles since new bearings, rings and head gaskets. Motor came out of a 88-89 silverado. Does not have vortec heads Small 260ish lift cam. No other info available Serpentine setup from 93 suburban Holley single bore intake Edelbrock 650 carb with electric choke I'll assume stock 700r4 and converter (forgot to ask details) Rusted up headers and cheap exhaust Please forgive me if some of my terminology is off. I'm new to old stuff. I can get more info and casting numbers if necessary but it will take a few weeks since I'm out of town working. Posted via Mobile Device Posted via Mobile Device

Re: 350 & 700r4 value
FWIW, I have the 350 out of my '74 up for sale carb to pan with vortec heads and 20K on it and can't seem to get any luck on that at $1200. That is including a TH400 as well.

Re: 350 & 700r4 value
I would compression test it and drive it if i could,If everything is fine 1500 to 2500 is a good range on the price .A rebuilt 700r4 from advance auto is1200 plus a core charge.A rebuilt long block 350 from auto zone is 1300 plus core charge.

Re: 350 & 700r4 value
$1000, deff no more than $1500...that type of setup is a dime a dozen. There's MILLIONS of 350 setups out there and used ones aren't worth much, unless brand new rebuilds. Even then a brand new one is only worth $2500 usually. I sold my crate engine carb to pan for $500. Don't remember how much mileage was on it, but not much. Tranny's are usually only worth $50-250. So a $700 combo. I'd say no more than $1000 if I were buying.

Re: 350 & 700r4 value
As a general rule, (to the buyer) used engines aren't worth a whole lot. You have no idea what its been through, though I'm sure the seller will always tell you it was only driven to church on sundays by an old lady, and never raced. you're going to want to tear into it to get a look, imo. You can get engines like that all day long on craigslist for $450-$1,000 so I wouldn't pay much for it.
