Best to use front Drop Spindles or Lowering Springs

Hello Everyone,

My son and I are working on a 69 C10 396 setup as a father/son project. We are considering lowering the truck 2 inches in the front and about 3 inches in the back.

My question to all of you is about the lowering of the front end:
Is it better to use 2 inch drop spindles (disc conversion) or just use 2 inch drop springs in the front?

We are going to do the front disc conversion anyway, just not sure about ordering the 2 inch drop spindles or normal setup and 2 inch drop springs.
Which is the better setup that you would suggest?

Thank You for any information that you are willing to share. I would prefer not to make the wrong decision here.

Thank You All,
Kirk

Spindles would ride better and if you ever wanted to go lower you could go with spring since you are doing the conversion anyway my 2 cents .

Spindles. It retains the steering geometry. The springs will require major alignment to get it right and as stated above the springs can be added later if you want to go lower. The disc conversion is a plus and you probably should go power if you don't already have it.Another thing to consider is new springs. After 45 years of sagging they may need a bit of attention.Keep in mind that you are probably lower than stock height now with the original springs and plan for that.

If you look around a bit you will find a truck with the stance you want and can lower accordingly.

Re: Best to use front Drop Spindles or Lowering Springs

Great Feedback Guys...

My son actually likes the original ride height, but I am seriously trying to convince him otherwise. Especially since we will be doing some serious state to state cruising with this truck.

I was thinking that the spindles would be a better choice, but I am so NEW to these trucks that I wanted to ask you guys who have loved these trucks.

I am now beginning to see and understand the affection for these trucks. I am so excited about them now that I just purchased a 71 SWB fleetside. Now we have a 69 SWB stepside with a 396 and a 71 SWB fleetside with a 350 and rear airbags (painted Satin Black).

Thanks again for the information and please keep it coming. I will have to update my profile pic with a pic of these two trucks and keep everyone updated on the progress.

Thanks Guys,
Kirk

I am with the others on this. Spindles are the way to go and the disc conversion at the same time effectively makes it a "free" side effect.

You don't need spindles if you are only dropping it 2". And a 2" drop is not a "major" alignment my 9" drop with bags was a major alignment. get 2" drop springs. If money is not a concern then sure get drop spindles. Your stock length shocks will also be fine for a 2" drop.

I agree if you are buying a disc brake kit then choose the drop spindles option and then its a free 2.5" drop.
