Why not look into a used LS engine with tranny... check out our LS forum and see how easy some guys have done the install...
For nearly the same money, or less if you shop around, you could have a more fuel efficient and powerful (not to mention reliable) setup... http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=517347 If you ever decide to get more HP then a simple cam swap will get you over 400HP...

Thanks msgross, ill check into it.im just not as mechanically savvy as many on the board, that was my only concern.

the l71 is an excellent motor for a truck , its what it was designed for . the 2 things that will not interchange are your flex plate , and intake manifold , both easy to find and of reasonable cost , carbs work great on vortec head motors , i have a carbed 330 ho engine in my camaro that uses the identical heads , runs fantastic
