Marker light Problem!!

Hey guy's

I bought some LED trailer lights and installed them on my 67gmc all work but turn signal. Both lights have a RED, WHITE and BLACK wire. RED is turn/brake, BLACK is running lights and WHITE is GROUND. When I hook up my test light to the RED then they blink as advertized but when I take the test light away the light stops blinking and just stay lit. I am assuming that I have a bad ground.

Any thoughts?

try a electronic flasher there may not be enough resistance to make the flasher work

I'm no expert, but I seem to recall reading somewhere that LEDs do not draw enough current to "trip" conventional flashers. The fact that the small addition of the test light makes them work would seem to verify this. Perhaps try different flashers or look for a flasher specifically for LEDs. Maybe someone more knowledgeable will chime in.

It's like the opposite of adding a trailer to an older vehicle with-out adding a heavy duty flasher, which make them flash too fast.

(Light bulb) flasher meaning flasher relay under truck dash. gatcha now just the task of finding one. thanks for the great response guy's.

I agree it needs a electronic flasher that will trip with LED lights

Another way to do it - and I've seen it done this way - is to tap a wire off of the flasher under the dash and wire it to a bulb and holder. Like your test light, this will provide enough resistance in the circuit to make the flasher flash.

Me personally I would buy the electronic flasher.

it's funny you say that i was just thinking i have two tag lights one on either side of the tag and if i hooked them up just like that it should work and then i realized that i would have to keep the running lights on at all time to get the tag lights to work. but i did not think about the bulb under the dash idea. i will try that until i can get a relay for LED's. thanks

Be careful with those clamp on wiring deals. The are easy and are fast to install by if left in the elements get green and furry and eventually lose contact.
I would skip the part of the pack that says "No wire cutting is required" and get out the soldering iron.
And have a care about the part that says "LOAD EQUALIZERS GET AS HOT AS INCANDESCENT BULBS!" I'm guessing that all you're doing is wiring a resistor across the circuit - which mimics the effect of a light bulb.

The part you got at O'Reilly's is designed for 88-98's with LED's. The LED's that they sell are trash, even though they are called Super Brite. The correct way to install them is parallel to the turn signal filament. What you may have done is just add resistance to the circuit which did what you needed done.

There are electronic flashers that have already been mentioned, that replace the OEM style flasher. They will make LED's operate properly. I used one in my '69, and it worked great.

So, there is more than one way to fix stuff.
