shifter handle

I was wanting to put a hurts completion plus in my truck but I have a sm465 and they don't make one for it. I was wondering if anyone has put a different handle on there 465 I was thinking cut it where it comes out the top leave a little length there and weld the new handle in to it. if anyone has done this any help would be awesome. thanks

Re: shifter handle

I suppose you could do that if you really wanted too. SM465 is not exactly a slick shifting transmission and putting a new handle on is not going to improve it.

Re: shifter handle

I will ave to check for sure, but I think it's a hurst thats on my 86 with 465. It's a T handle that threaded right on.My 80 has a pistol grip from a highway truck, just welded a stud on the lever & put it on.Will go get some Picts & post later on.

Re: shifter handle

Ok,you meant changing the whole lever eh?It's too bad you couldn't change it to something like the A833. But that's a side loader,it's a way nicer tranny for daily driving too.
