Cross Member Modification

When I tried to install my new Hooker Header, I ran into a problem with hitting the cross member and did not want to have to move fuel lines running down the frame to install a tubular cross member. This is what I came up with and I really like the mod to the factory cross member. Just wanted to share this to maybe help someone else facing the same problem.
I like the fact that I now have a straight run on the driver side and not the under the frame bend.
Next up get all new exhaust ran with Magnaflow. My neighbors will Love me for it. LOL

Re: Cross Member Modification

Nice. Ad some gussets to it and it will help keep the frame from flexing like original but nice way to get er done

Re: Cross Member Modification

Hey thanks for the gusset idea and I will work to complete that as well. Thanks for the compliments on me little project here.
I would recommend to find a piece of 5 x 5 square rather than the 6 x 4 I used to complete this. 5 x 5 would give more clearance for the exhaust to run through and I think it would look better as well.
I will say it sounds a lot better with a quality header carrying the tune of the Mother Thumper.

Re: Cross Member Modification

you can also use earlier model trans crossmembers like 73-74 i think
my 74 has both sides lifter so i can run the pipes, without the member in the way
