How much is it worth?
I have a 1972 3/4 Ton GMC Sierra with A 402 Big Block, AC Automatic that I bought about 20 years ago.
Can anyone give me an idea of how much this truck would sell for as is? It's been a great truck over the years, parked under cover, not much rust except for the tail gate. And I've probably only put 10,000 miles on it. The problem is, due to lack of use and lack of maintenance, it needs a bunch of work and I really don't want to spend a whole lot to fix it up. Needs: minor body work, missing trim, exhaust, brakes?, radiator?, full tune-up, suspension, belts & hoses and maybe some other stuff. The drivers side mirror came off the door, And a weld on the exhaust broke. I haven't looked at the rear end or transmission but it still runs and drives well. I will really miss this truck, but it needs a good home and some TLC. Thanks in advance for any help! Last edited by fpihl; 07-22-2013 at 11:24 AM. |

I'm not a moderator but the board rules say you have to be a paying member to ask how much your truck is worth. The dues are 25 bucks a year and you can then post your truck in the trucks for sale area also. Just a heads up... LockDoc

Re: How much is it worth?
I bolted the mirror back on and re-hung the exhaust. Here's a picture:
Can anyone give me a rough estimate of what this could sell for? I was thinking about $3500, does that sound like too much? Thanks |

A few more pics would help. How does the interior look? Any rust in the cab mounts under the truck? How about the core support and inner panel under the battery box? It doesn't look real bad in the picture you posted but if it really needs all of the things you say $3500 may be a little optimistic. Just my 2¢ worth. LockDoc

Re: How much is it worth?
More photos would be helpful but from what I see. 3500 sounds fair to me.

Re: How much is it worth?
you probably need to hear from members in your area...prices vary all over the country....due to the amount of rust that's "acceptable" and how many are left...a guy from Montana says its a $ 2000 truck and a guy from Michigan says $5000...

Re: How much is it worth?
The price is fair at 3500 for up here. The problem is alot of the trucks in that price range aren't selling quickly. Trucks 3k and up that are listed on CL have been up for months.

Re: How much is it worth?
I agree with Dova that the price of 3,500 is good for the PNW.
You might be able to sell it a little easier right now because it's the middle of the camping season plus the AC, POSI & 402 are good options to have in a camper truck. Hunting season is also a good time to sell a rig like this.

Re: How much is it worth?
For as solid as that truck looks ...... I think its worth all of 3500.00 + some. Bodywork is the most expensive part of redoing one of these truck. That's my .02 for what its worth.

Thanks for the replies.
How can you tell it has posi? Is it from the SPID or is that just part of the Sierra Grand package? I have been having second thoughts about selling. I keep thinking how much I would miss my truck. |

Re: How much is it worth?
Your asking a reasonable price it is a nicely optioned out truck, looks pretty solid.
It does sound like she is an old friend and has been for years. Keep her and devote a little time and money to her every month, and before to long you'll say "glad I kept her". Now what about the 1 ton motorhome in the background, that looks like a cool camping ride. |
