Re: Bed Rails
I can't find these offered anywhere for anything as old as 1966. Dee Zee and Deflecta Shield make these, but don't find a listing for anything as old as our trucks. To assist in searching they are called "Bed Rail Caps" or just "bed caps".

Re: Bed Rails
George,
If you get with a good siding company in your area they would have NO problem bending the plate for you to fit. Heck you might be able to rent the panel bender from Home Depot, the length is 10'. I'm doing that this summer on the house to finish off the siding project.

Re: Bed Rail Caps
Hi, Thanks for your reply. Do you mean that the panel bender machine is 10' long? Do you have any idea where to get the diamond plate blanks that I would have to bend?
I dont suppose I could adapt a set from some other more modern stepper to fit? All I might have to do is hacksaw the excess length off and Im good to go. Even if they were not quite wide enough, I could probably live with that. I just want some quick way to cover the dents from previous owners and these look nice. I adapted a tailgate cap from another truck and it makes a big difference in appearance. Before it looked all bent up and now it looks straight as an arrow- cheap and easy fix. |

Re: Bed Rails
It takes an industrial type leaf or press brake to bend diamond plate, a siding press won't have the required capacity. And the diamond plate needs cut to size first, best way to do that is using a plate shear.
If there is a small fabrication shop in your area drive the truck over there and tell them what you are after. Most of these shops would be glad to help for a minimal amount of money. Last edited by lakeroadster; 03-28-2011 at 10:17 AM. |

Re: Bed Rails
ok, i know it's a little off subject, but man.... that is one HELLUVA back bumper you got there! looks good there, too... do you know any good welders? you could have a set of rails fabbed up in no time to fit perfectly... another option is to look at the rails for mid 70's to mid 80's beds... you could probably bolt 'em on an have it look just right without any problem..

Re: Bed Rails
I know this is an old thread, but did anyone find bedrail caps for our generation? I'd be interested in them for my longbed fleetside (smooth, not diamond plate.) to cover the atrocities that the previous owners did to the tops of my bedsides. Seriously, the holes and bondo they did there should be warcrimes.

Re: Bed Rails
It`s the cost of material more than bending some sheetstock. Have you measured some newer beds to see how close in profile they are. While they may not be listed by our series, the profile might be close enough, therefore easily purchased

Re: Bed Rails
I figured it might come to that, but if i'm laying out the money for new bedrails, i'd like them to just fit you know? I mean, is working on old vehicles turning into work these days or what?!
I emailed this guy, these might be what i'm looking for. I've been searching and keeping an eye out as i get closer, and hadn't see any yet: http://www.ebay.com/itm/BED-RAIL-CAP...item1e788794bc

Re: Bed Rails
George:
Stepside beds like ours were used all the way through the mid 80's. The only difference were the fenders and steps. Rails should be identical. I pulled a front gate off of one of them in the junkyard from a 1984 truck. See if a 6' 1984 Stepside is listed in the application for those rails. That would work on your truck as well. Hope this helps. Regards, Steve New Orleans |

Re: Bed Rails
He did email back and say he has them for our trucks, and the tailgate cap and front panel caps as well. I will email him back and double check that they'll fit a 66 fleetside...good news as they've proven hard to find ready made for our trucks.
