Re: 79 stepside
Yesterday i yanked out the shortbed frame, i have no use for it. anybody needs it gimmie a call 8128706797. other than that i think imma junk it. its not a very good frame. rear leaf hangers need to be re-welded. other than that nothing is on the frame. but when i was yanking the frame out under tha truck the cab fell over -___- Im doing this all by myself, i have friends but none of them help hahah. i could use some help!
thats when i knocked the cab over. Then i drug the longbed frame up close to the barn so i can work on it. got the axles out from under it Today is a nasty day, so im waiting for the weather to clear up but ive got most the rust off and i got a base layer of paint over the outside frame. i need to do some work to the rear hangers so i havent painted the hangers or the inside. Pictures in a few.. stupid phone wont load em |

Re: 79 stepside
by the end of the day yesterday i had her sittin on blocks ready to be cleaned up and axles swaped to 8 lugs, 3/4tons. QUESTION! does anybody know how to tell apart the different kind of gm axles? i know theres like 14 bolt and a couple others but can you tell by the pumpkin? ill take pictures of them later and put them on here.. i got to sand those down too and paint them black! TODAY 4/16/13 i started sanding down the outside of the frame to get the surface rust off and the other paint. down to bare metal. left side is suface rust, on the right cleaned down to bare frame. Cleaned up a bit. can you guess what side was facing north? lol this side was the nasty side, it had some kinda rubber goowy stuff that was hard to get off |

Re: 79 stepside
Today i got the 3/4 axles under the long bed frame.
put a first coat of black on both front and rear axles. i think there is 8 leafs in the back and about a 4in block. i need to get one in the front cause its kinda sittin like a drag car right at the second lol tommorrow i think im making a set of body mounts a friend of mine showed me how to make them i think im going with a 3in body mount. the only thing i dont know is how many mounts are under the bed?? |

Re: 79 stepside
Well im getting ready to leave for boot so this is going to be my last post for a while. Ive had a change of heart these past couple days... i really would like a crew cab chevy. 79' front clip. and i think ive got the answer. when i get out i am going to buy a burb and use the 4 doors off that and throw a long bed behind it with some cuttin and grinding and well some welding. and ill also have to strech the frame but thats easy peasy. oh this is the link to the page that turned me onto this.. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=443820
i know where theres two of them at right this second but i doubt either one if for sale.

Re: 79 stepside
Yea to update my thoughts about this project and my next.. i think i am just gonna keep the parts i need off this truck, ive been doing my research about those ol crew cabs and imma get one when i get outta tech school. if i keep the body and all that good stuff from this step side i might end up makin a mud bogger outta it.
