One more rear axel bearing question?
I didn't have a bearing puller so I used a long steel rod to push the old bearings and seals out from the inside of my '64.
Since I was on the opposite side of the truck I did not get to see the order in which these 3 parts came out of the housing. I think the large flat metal washer goes in 1st, then the bearings and then the seal? Is that correct or no?

Re: One more rear axel bearing question?
It's been a while but sure don't remember that flat washer.
Went and looked in my shop manual, don't see that washer. The bearing goes in first, then the seal, then slide the axle in. Last edited by T Smith; 07-27-2013 at 07:47 PM. Reason: looked in shop manual |

Re: One more rear axel bearing question?
It definitely came out of there, one on each side....
It is a flat sheet metal disc I am assuming it is a bearing stop, but I don't know and I can't find a reference to it anywhere except on chevy mechanics blog I read.

Re: One more rear axel bearing question?
You don't want the washer between the bearing and the seal, so to me the washer has to go in first.

Re: One more rear axel bearing question?
Maybe washer was used to space bearing outward on axle. I have used axle savers before but they don't look like what u have.
