Quirky Ebay Truck For Sale

I'm not saying the seller is not up front with this truck but a couple of things dont add up. The spid does not denote a V8 engine which the truck has. Now if you decode the serial number it shows as a 69 swb GMC with a V8 engine. Two things are making me curious, first of all the lettering on the spid is faded except for the serial number and wouldn't a V8 engine show as an option on the spid with a 6 cylinder being the standard engine. Even the GMC fender nameplate says V8. Except for the add on gauges and tach I like the look of the truck.

Re: Quirky Ebay Truck For Sale

Hey Greg, It looks OK. Both I-6s and V-8s had a base engine. 250/307 So it has the V8 engine code in the vin and model number, and no optional engine listed on the SPID. So that means it came with the base V8, 307 from the factory.

On the darker Vin print, I have seen a lot of them like that, Even have several that don't line up with the rest of the text. And some printed in red.

That is a nicely done truck. You should buy it.

I think sometimes we all get to excited to find things that are incorrect or "wrong" on these old trucks. As our knowledge of these trucks improves it gets easier to pick them apart to. I think it's a nice old SWB, and I'd definitely take it!

Guess I just learned something else about our trucks. My thinking is that any engine other than a 6 cylinder would be an option (because I'm sure there was a upcharge to the V8) so it should show up on the spid, but it sounds like that isn't the case. I also like the truck and think it is very nicely done.

Re: Quirky Ebay Truck For Sale

That just looks like a base model with an original 307 and 3 speed manual transmission. I notice it doesn't say HydroMatic on the SPID. I think it's weird that it has chrome bumper, custom badges, carpet, and cloth seat cover. And I would bet money that the 27k miles on the odometer isn't original, considering everything else that's been done to that truck.

Re: Quirky Ebay Truck For Sale

Van tilt [that is perfectly fine] rust behind the tags on the door openings and a few other things that I dont remember what they are now so they were not that big of a deal. Of course it is not my money being put down on this truck. I am not gonna knock it it looks pretty good to me and I think depending on region and economy worth the price. It has def had some options added from the time that the spid was placed on the truck if it was a lower option type truck. Still it would be worth checking out if your in the market and in that area. I don't know these people don't even know where they are from I didn't look. Jim

Re: Quirky Ebay Truck For Sale

The second digit in the vin, "E" denotes a v8 engine. If it was a 6 cyl truck, it would be an "S".

Looks like a decent truck, but I'm curious about the rust behind the vin tag as well. It makes me question the 28k mile claim. Without some documentation to prove otherwise, i would say 128k.

I could never figure out why people think they can stick two emblems on a car or trick and fool everyone

http://item.mobileweb.ebay.com/viewi...d=141022952967

Nice truck. If i was in the market, i would swap the cheyenne emblems out for the custom 10 that came on it.

Hahahaha!

Nice truck. Really nice. Obviously worked over.

So, if the buyer understands the "touchy areas", and checks them out (and they do), very well worth seven large in my book.
But, again, what's the reserve?

My issue is not me or someone else picking out stuff that isn't correct simply for sport, but for educating and being educated.
Sellers have an obvious motivation.

Buyers are usually motivated, too. It's just that it's best to be a buyer with open eyes.... before opening a wallet.....

I wonder how many of you folks have helped buyers get it right. I'm betting a whole lot fewer tears have been shed
because of the expertise that "lives" here.

Re: Quirky Ebay Truck For Sale

Greg, the lowest priced truck is a 6cyl model and any V8 truck will have a higher base price. The model# and VIN both show either CE or CS since the number of cylinders is the first and primary difference between models, then body type, and wheelbase. Everything else is determined by options. This truck is a nid-level "Custom",so it's not a base model as someone suggested.

This is a very nice truck, just how I like them. The things I notice is it has a 71/72 grille,71/72 mirrors, and 70/71 door panels. So,it's been "built". I looked at a '69 GMC SWB the same color yesterday at a classic car dealer that had 1/2 a dozen or so of these trucks. This one appealed most to me and it was tucked to the rear and off the hardtop. It was a base model 350/3spd with rallyes, dual exhaust, decent paint, new upholstery...nice but not as nice as this one here.I asked and $17k is what he's asking. That was enough for me to know any thoughts I had on wanting any of his trucks needed to end right there. I want one like that so bad I'd probably pay too much if I had it. But,not double too much
