Re: question about white cabs.

Kev,

I can't say for sure, but I don't believe I have seen one that doesn't have the trim separating the two colors. I just sprayed my roof white and bought a belt mldg from a board member. The line came out so straight I'm toying with the idea of not using the trim when I'm done. I'll just have to see how it looks and I feel about it when I'm closer to being finished with the build. Heck, it seems my plans change about things on this truck day to day, even hour to hour at times. That's just the way it goes with this hobby!

Re: question about white cabs.

My white '69 c/10, L-6, no P/s, no P/b, came without cab divider trim.

To clarify, your question is about two-tone trucks having a cab paint divider molding and not about belt moldings correct?

As you can see in the picture below there were three basic molding groups the BX2 Lower Bodyside molding, the B85 Upper Bodyside (belt) Molding and the D99 Paint Divider Molding.

Since this question appears to be about two-tone trucks we will only address the D99 at this point.

Any factory two-tone truck will have a white, cream (67-68) or alternate color (custom two-tone) for the roof. The cab back will have the D99 paint divider trim. That code however, only shows up on a build sheet as D99 TWO TONE PAINT most of the time. The two-tone paint is indicated on the SPID solely by the paint code on most trucks with the cab trim implied.

So an original truck should have the molding or remains of the weld studs for the clips and a two tone paint code.

As a note solid color trucks should not have the cab divider trim. This is most often seen on repaints that did not retain the original white/contrasting roof.

Re: question about white cabs.

OK, But to clarify the color schemes need to be broken down.
Solid Paint. any single color, no moldings required.
Conventional Two-Tone. white roof/body color, includes D99 divider molding.
Special Two-Tone. white roof/body color/white rockers, has white rockers in addition to the roof, includes D99 divider molding and requires BX2 lower bodyside moldings.
Deluxe Two-Tone. white roof/body color/white side/body color, has white bodyside panels in addition to the roof, includes D99 divider trim and requires B85 upper bodyside moldings and BX2 lower bodyside moldings.
Custom Two-Tone. select contrasting roof color /body color, these were identical to the conventional two-tone but without white. blue/blue and green/green were examples often seen as was the much less common black/red orange, includes D99 divider trim.

Remember solid trucks could be had without any molding (depending on trim level)
D99 divider molding came only on two-tone ordered trucks.
Upper and lower bodyside moldings were available on any trim level (within years and body styles offered) without two-tone paint. Thus side trim does not equate to a two-tone.

Re: question about white cabs.

That about wraps it up right there. One quick note, the upper door, always white also? I've seen some body color all the way around next to the white cab. Thought it looked odd. Maybe not. Man, what did I do before the Internet came along.

That is it. The 67 MY only tops were painted off white from the drip rail up leaving the door window frames body color.

Re: question about white cabs.

This clears up a lot. Thanx every one who chimed in. With all the repaints out there it gets confusing.
