Missed a deal....kickin myself. Am I the alone?

Dang.....local classified site had a posting this morning for a perfect shortbed stepside for my '67. Called the guy and he said it was a Arizona truck and he was putting a fleet side on it. Complete, no dents, original paint, zero rust .. $400. " Sure..if its what you say it is, I'll buy it, " I tell him. After church,I'll run over (30 miles). Called two hours later.."some guys driving off with it now". Arrrgh

Note to self(put cash in drawer for future , and when you find a deal....go).

Anybody else "snooze and lose"?

Re: Missed a deal....kickin myself. Am I the alone?

In 1989 I walked over 500.00 on a deal where the seller had come down 2000.00 Oh yea, it was on a low mileage all original 2 owner 1969 Plymouth Road Runner 383 , factory bucket and console convertible. A few days after I walked I came out of the ether and called the seller to say I'd take his deal, but you know what happened. As has been said we al have stories of the one that got away!!!

Just the way some deals go, not made to have it. Wonder if it really was "all that". Maybe you went to church for a reason and missed it.

But what I've learned is that there is always a higher reason why stuff happens. For example, you could of been involved in a big wreck or something. Look on the bright side, atleast your still alive!!

That's what I meant, always a reason for things. If a deal comes easy, cool if you have to fight tooth and nail...well not meant to be.

Re: Missed a deal....kickin myself. Am I the alone?

Been there a few times. A little different situation, but when I lived in Utah I worked at a parts store. These two kids came in that I knew, driving a black and red 1987 Monte Carlo SS Aero Coupe (not something I would seek out but a cool car nonetheless). That said they knocked on someone's door and asked to buy it. They thought the motor was junk and I guess didn't care/ know what it was, so they told the guys they could haul it off for $100! They put a battery in and it ran great! I asked where they found it, and they said it was on the street I lived, just a few houses down! Wished I had caught that one, but I'm glad I didn't have to cram one more car I didn't need into the driveway lol

Re: Missed a deal....kickin myself. Am I the alone?

Many-many (did I say many ?) years ago, I walked away from a '57 T-bird with supercharged motor, with Kelsey-Hayes wire wheels & a Wonderbar radio for $ 300.00. And with both the convertible & porthole tops.

Yep - brilliant is my middle name.

Why ? engine smoked some on startup, & I was worried I might not be able to afford a rebuild. Plus, I didn't much like that darn porthole window in the top.

Oh, the ones that got away .............

Re: Missed a deal....kickin myself. Am I the alone?

My dad took and showed me 2 cars in a shop in 98. A buick grand national with 20k miles all original with a ton of oem parts to go with it and a 70 chevelle with a matching number 454 4 speed red with black stripes. Both cars were mint. He said he is asking 20k for the pair but my dad said I bet he would take 15k and...
we sat on it and the guy sold the chevelle for 15k alone and the grand national sold for 11k.
Also looked at a black and white chevelle 396 4 speed running and driving for 10k and passed...

Re: Missed a deal....kickin myself. Am I the alone?

’87-88 was a bad year for cars for me. Passed on a ’70 442 convertible with fresh AutoShack 455 hit light in the front for $800. Passed on a rusty ’70 Chevelle with a 12 bolt and 427 tri-power Corvette engine (probably low horse, but still) with a blown head gasket for $600. Had a ’68 GTO with no engine, rally pack dash, and pretty complete other than engine and trans. Sold it for peanuts because my mom wouldn’t let me bring it home. If I had all those today, I would have something. I did buy a ’69 SS Camaro shell that year, kept a few parts, but sold it in ’92 for about nothing. Oh well.

Re: Missed a deal....kickin myself. Am I the alone?

A couple of months ago I missed out on a 68 swb fleetside bed for $150 a while back. I kept putting it off due to the fact that it was about 2 hrs away. C list Seller didnt have any photos so I tell myself it probably wasnt as clean as he said.

I also missed out one a one owner true barn find 78 malibu 2 dr 305/ factory 4 speed no rust never wrecked factory paint for $900. I didnt have when i first saw the ad the cash and as soon as i did i called about a week later and it was gone.

Re: Missed a deal....kickin myself. Am I the alone?

When i bought my latest 72 swb step for $500, the seller also had a clean barn find 55 willys aero for $500. Cleaner than the 71 but no $$$ for both at the time as i was out if work. It wiuld have been sweet with an LS motor and T56!
