Electronic fuel pump question

1987 gmc v2500 5.7 tbi dual tanks with pumps in the tanks. I finally put my new passenger tank on after looking at it in the garage for 8 yrs. I reused the old pump which worked fine when I took it out.

When I switch tanks I don't hear anything. I will double check the connections first but my question is if I buy a new pump do I buy the whole assembly or just the pump and mount it to the original assembly? Thanks

Re: Electronic fuel pump question

Just buy the pump if its bad. Its about a 20 min job(unless bolts are rusted) to drop the tanks and install the new pump. I would check the switch and the valve first. You should have 12v to the wire going to the tank. 2 wires 1 is the sending unit and the other is +12v.

Re: Electronic fuel pump question

Dropping the tank will be easy since I just put it in with all new hardware. I will Check for 12vdc first. If there isnt 12 vdc I will run 12 v to test the pump. If the pump works I will look at the switch and the valve. Thx
