1999 and up, brake systems
Has anyone attempted to adapt 99up front brake system on our trucks? How about the ABS system?
I ask because I have a complete front suspension system from a 99up truck. I am interested in using the uprights, hubs, rotors and calipers as well as the rear brake system from this truck. My thought is that I want modern parts that I can get at any parts store as needed. If no one has any information on this, I plan on ordering some cheap ball joints and taking measurements. For my application I plan on using Rack and pinion from same truck

i'd love to put anti locks on a 72 blazer...
2 wheel drive tahoe knuckle assembly(2000-2005) and some custom control arms uppers and lowers... that way disc brakes with option to go abs cut and chop the rear end out of the same tahoe now rear discs with drum style e-brake and option for abs

I read up on a early camaro they added abs too,Basicly you need the whole system both have to weight almost the same weight.And they said it worked pretty good but wasn't perfect yet and they worked on it for a few years.

I believe the spindle is taller on the later model trucks, so might not work with factory location arms. I could be wrong, but maybe something looking into.

Yes it would solve a lot of problems. Currently we are modifying 42+ year old trucks with 41 year old technology. Totally ignoring the latest design advances. The rear parking brake system sold as an upgrade is using 1970's Lincoln calipers because it is cheap and easy. Forcing us into buying custom made components rather than off-the-shelf current production parts. The single piston front calipers offered have not been in production since 1987.
It just seems crazy that we are dependent on the specialized market rather than utilizing modern common parts. Even if this requires special control arms to make this work, we are still miles ahead because control arms don't wear out. It will take me a while before I can invest the time and money into this... my truck is still sitting in the same field since 1980. I must complete some other projects before I bring it home. otherwise nothing will get done.

We are ham-strung with the integrated rotor on diameter and material composition. The modern rotors are made from powdered semi-steel and pad selections are much greater.
Like I say, this may not be for everyone. Many are happy with the current choices available from these specialty suppliers. I for one am not. My main point of the original post was searching for anyone that might have attempted this conversion. I don't like re-inventing the wheel. But will readily blaze a new path. I have spent 25 years in R&D, and one thing I have learned is to never be happy with the status-quo.
