Alternator not charging thus battery

Ok so I've been driving my sisters old 1978 ex-diesel 1500 with a carburated 454 out if a 1991 Chevy,my problem is I have a brand new starter, alternator, battery, and cables+ the cable from the battery to the starter...and it won't start unless I charge the battery every night,it only drains the battery when I drive it,I can let it set over night with a full charge and it'll be fine when morning comes, all the new parts I have have been tested and are all fine... Any ideas? Also sometimes when I go to start it there is sparks that I can see that are either coming from the drivers side under the truck or under the dash inside

Re: Alternator not charging thus battery

loose wire or a short. get a meter and start going down the electrical system... there was a problem with a truck at my work with the batteries and there was a loose wire that always had a charge going through it, drained the batteries every night.

Re: Alternator not charging thus battery

sorry read the post again, possibly the ground wire not completely grounded, a cable somewhere with exposed wires or also a starter solenoid.

I don't have a meter yet but it's on the list of tools I need... I should also note that the truck will start excellent if I turn the distributor clockwise about 1/5 of a turn, but then she runs like $h!t
