My new 1978 C10 350

Hey guys, new to the forum! Glad to say that I was passed down a 1978 Chevy silverado c10 from my grandfather. I have wanted this truck for quite a long time and although he passed away when I was young, I feel that is in the right hands!

The truck has not been running for about ten years, I have already changed all of the fluids besides the tranny fluid, dropped the gas tank and have primed the upper cylinders and turned the motor by hand. Tomorrow I get the battery. Now is it not the engine I am concerned about but the tires. (ha) All of the tires are old and won't hold air. I am looking into new tires but I want to know how big of a tire I can go on the stock rims? I'm pretty sure they are 15's.

Thanks in advance guys!
Charlie

31x10.5 are usually biggest on stock wheels. Some trucks seem to accept 32s without rubbing, others don't. You've done all the right things before turning the engine over - you must have done your homework. Post some pics sometime...

Thanks for the reply and the info! I did quite a bit of reading up before I started working on it, going to fire it up today, debating changing the fuel pump before hand but we will see when I get to that point. How can I get the truck to the shop without towing it!? Should I just take all the tires off and bring them in?

Cool! Thanks! I fired it up for the first time today, plenty of spark, no fuel. After I got a new fuel pump it took 2 mins to take it off and an hour for me to realize how to get the plunger to work on the mechanical fuel pump, installed and fired right up! unfortunely I need a new alternator now haha but it runs!

The reason I say it needs a new altenator is because there is a death squealing noise next to it, probably because it is the original part and it wont spin properly with the belts causing the sqeal but please let me know if you think it could be something else. I did notice that the pully from the power steering seems to be not in lined with the pulley to the fan.
