Misc Wires?
Hey everyone, I've got these wires that I'm not sure what they go to (yet). I'm trying to see if anyone has any thoughts as to what they might do.
This small silver box is on the Passenger side fender, and has a yellow wire (on the right) and a red wire (on the left) on it. The yellow wire is coming from under the driver's side dash. The red wire runs along the top of the radiator support, then connects to the left side of this on the driver's side radiator support. The right side then connects back to a yellow wire, that runs under the cab some place. Any ideas? I've checked conductivity and there is some conductivity between the left terminal and the middle terminal, but nothing that connects to the right.

Well, it's definitely not stock, but you probably knew that. Does your truck have evidence of anything aftermarket, like stereo equipment, etc?

Might be part of a camper wiring setup. The "little silver box" is a circuit breaker. I'm not sure what the other part is unless it is an older style inverter. LockDoc

Re: Misc Wires?
The second picture looks like an old school battery isolator to allow the truck alternator to charge the house battery in the camping unit when in-transit but prevent a drain on the truck battery if the camping unit is left connected when camping.
Have you tried checking to see if the right terminal is hot when the engine is running? |

Now I just need to remove the rest of the wires that went to it. Thanks for the replies guys. I appreciate it.

Re: Misc Wires?
Not worth saving the isolator. Can't imagine anyone wanting it. Much better, more compact electronic units made today.
It appears it may have been installed on a factory camper wiring harness. Is one listed on your SPID? If so, you may want to salvage the harness wires and return it to stock appearance. I have some pics of my factory installation if you go that route. Last edited by FirstOwner69; 08-02-2013 at 10:24 PM. |
