Re: Starting with no key?
We want to know what the problem was!
The neutral safety switch is part of an apparatus that is attached to the lower portion of your steering column, right about dead center between the pedals, and it should also house the reverse light switch.

Re: Starting with no key?
I left the wires to the ignition switch plugged in and when I turn the key to the 2nd position there is power to the truck. I know the starter works because I have a test button and it is making it work.

Re: Starting with no key?
Wish I could help! This is the scariest part of my build right here. When it comes time to re-wire the truck and things all of the sudden won't work.
Wish you luck. Keeping my eye out for your solution on this one for future reference.

Re: Starting with no key?
Glad to see you are getting it sorted out.
On the wiring of the neutral safety switch bypass it for now by tying the two wires together and see if it starts.This will take away the silly stuff like you don't have the transmission linkage adjusted correctly and that is keeping the switch in a position that won't let it start. If it doesn't start and the truck has power follow the power you have and see were it stops.It sounds like you have a broken wire somewhere.If you have a friend handy make them hold the key fully on while you get on the floor of the truck and jiggle the wires from the ignition switch and the harness all the way to the firewall. You can then try the same thing under the hood just make sure you tell your helper to let go if it tries to start. If that works replace those wires with more crimp on wires. |

Re: Starting with no key?
Good news I figured it out! So I have a new NSS and back up light switch on my new shifter so I did that and I still wasn't getting any thing. I then started from the beginning with my wires and low and behold the ignition wire that I had to replace had come apart from the crimped end that I pluged into the fuse box! So I redid it and like a big blue monster she worked!!!! Thank I all for your help!

Re: Starting with no key?
Do you have an alarm system? Is the wire getting power at all time? The only time the sylinoid wire should get power is when it is turned on with the key.

Re: Starting with no key?
Yea I think I had few things going on;
1- my starter was bad 2- my 36 year old ignition wire and accessory wire just pooped out on my 3- I am switching to a floor shifter and pulled out my colum shifter and didn't get my NSS in order 4- when I redid my ignition wire I just did a crappy job the first time and the wire pulled out of the crimped end and wasn't getting any signal to the starter to start Posted via Mobile Device
