New Guy

Just wanted to stop in and say hello. I was directed to the site by a fellow member of a truck club here in Jacksonville.

I must say that there is a HUGE wealth of information on here pertaining to 73-87's!!! BOUT TIME I FIND A PLACE!!!

Quick info on my rides...

Current Project (almost done FINALLY!!)

1979 ShortWide dropped 5/7. 421sbc TH400 w/3500 stall. 22x10 Boyd Dictators (18's in picture to get it to the paint shop). Full SSBC FX4 Force 10 setup with polished calipers and slotted rotors front and rear. LOTS and LOTS of body work/sanding to get it right.
I have been working on this for about 2 years now and it comes back from paint today. I'm guessing about another 2 months to finish up the exterior trim, seals, glass and wiring. Hope to make the Daytona show in March. Still waiting for the interior kit to be relaesed by RodDoors.

Daily Driver:

1976 K5 dropped 5/5 and sitting on 18" Budnik Gasser D's. 355sbc Vortech heads and TH350. Fun little ride that I'm enjoying tinkering with. The picture is before I dropped it and put rims on....I'll update soon.

Enjoy the pics and I'll update them as the progress continues!

Crush, tell your buddy that directed you here, thanks from us guys. We are always glad to have a new guy on the forum. We really like it when he brings along a couple of nice trucks too.

Give us more pics and details on your trucks. What color are you painting the 79? What color interior are you getting from rodDoors.
It looks like the 79 is going to be a really sharp truck. Lets see more construction pics. I found a pic of the wheels anyway.

WOW man! 421cid SBC!! Also, how do you like those SSBC brakes? I was contemplating getting a set for my 75 C10.
In the first pic, that truck doesn't look like 5/7, but I guess it's just the angle.

Thanks everybody!! To answer a few questions:

N2TRUX:

I'll let him know!! I've been pleasantly suprised with the amount of NICE ShortWides on here! Most people think I'm looney to be putting the time/effort/money that I have in the '79....but I've ALWAYS loved the bodystyle!!!
The color I choose is Aston Martin Cumberland Grey. It's a heavy Metallic "pewter" color.
The interior that I'm getting from RodDoors will be blank panels that I'll cover myself. I'm thinking about going with Graphite leather with Light Charcoal Ultrasuede inserts.
I'll be sure to post more pics when I get the digital back from my brother-in-law.
YEP! Those are the wheels! May need to send my rears back to Boyd to have re-sized. I ordered 6" backspacing due to being worried about rubbing, but now I want 5" b/s for the deep look in the rear.

TIMSPEED:

Yeah...can't wait to get the beast running! The SSBC kit is a nice kit, BUT there are a few things I would have liked to have known before ordering them. First and foremost you almost HAVE to run a wheel spacer on the front brakes due to the rotor hub being about 1/2-3/4" shorter than normal and the caliper being wider than stock. After putting everything on and mounting the wheel....*clink* the wheel hits the caliper
...sooooo I had to order the front rims with 7" b/s (Boyd wanted $400 a wheel to make the hubs 1" thicker) and run a 1" adapter/spacer.
The drop kit had only been on for about 12 hours when the picture was taken so it hadn't really "settled" yet. It still looks a little taller than the 5/5 I just put on the K5...but I may just be seeing things...

houston6:

The rear disk conversion is also a SSBC kit. I ordered the stock kit with polished caliper, slotted and coated. Overall a VERY nice kit and it was fairly simple to install.

Once again...Thanks for the compliments!!! I'll keep updates coming as progress happens!!

That sounds pretty clean. Is it going to be all one color, or you going with a two tone like the interior?

Yeah, a lot of these big brake conversions run into that problem. You have to have the wheels back cut, or spaced out to clear the calipers...

N2TRUX

The exterior will be a solid color. I did speak to a guy at Turkey Rod Run this weekend about possibly doing a VERY FINE pistripe-into-flame along the bodyline...but I'm not sold on that idea yet.
The brakes have been the biggest obsticle so far....at one point I packed them all up and was going to send them back, but I decided that I'd be mad at myself down the road if I didn't build it the way I have it pictured in my head.

Crush,
To bad your in Florida. I have a buddy that is an expert at doing small logos, and little details that set a paint job off just right.
Here's some of his stuff...

Sorry the picture is blurry. His work isn't....
