simple question...

Will a 81+ dash pad fit in my 73 truck and work with my 73 dash bezel, steering wheel, and lower column cover?

I know it will physically bolt in, but I am not sure of the differences between the bezels and columns throughout the years.

Jeff:

I know there is a difference in the lower steering column cover size. They go from: 73-77, 78-80, and 81-87. There were slight differences in size to accomodate the respective dash bezels. They have to match the dash bezel otherwise it won't fit.

I believe the 73-80 dash pads were shaped the same, except 79-80 had the cutout for the Vin Id. 81-87 has accomodation for the curved dash trim panel at the passenger side and I think, but not sure, but there may be a slight angle change at the dash bezel side. Definitely changes in the bezel occurred in the 84, when the wiper went to the stalk, eliminating the square cutout.

Mitch

So the 81+ dash will fit as long as i use both my 73 bezel and lower column cover?

Yes, the trim on the pass side of the pad is different...I know that, just trying to make sure a later model pad will fit (to better match my later model doors and panels)

Yep, I thing it will work as long as the dash bezel and lower steering column cover match. To be sure, if you can find a 81-87 dash bezel to compare to yours to verify the angles.

it will work. I had an 87 pad in my 75 blazer, and used the 75 bezel and lower cover. It looks pretty good, too.
