Blazer radio
Just wondering if anyone had any input on radio to use in a blazer with the top off. My dash is cut so the type doesn't matter but the one I have now I can't see unless it is dark out. Several of the ones I've looked at have lighter colored or fine text that won't be visible with the sun beating down on it. Does anyone have any recommendations on color/display type that can be seen in sunlight?

Re: Blazer radio
I have a similar problem on my '71 Jimmy when I mount my 5" GPS low on the inside windshield -- above the Wiper knob. I can't read the screen when the sun is out. I put an old black baseball cap with the back adjustment tab around the suction cup/armature assembly and tilt the cap visor to block out the excess sunlight. Sometimes it works OK. Also there's the benefit of pulling the cap over the Magellan when the screen's too bright. And when I park it I pull the cap over the unit to hide it from casual thieves.
Now that wouldn't translate exactly for an in-dash radio, but you get the concept of say, a visor, made out of black show card and black gaffers tape above the radio screen.

Re: Blazer radio
I've used single din Kenwood Excelon for many years in convertibles, Jeeps and now both my K5's and they show up.
The simpler the display the better. Now my wife has a fancy Kenwood touch screen and you can't see that worth a damn if it is bright out. |

Re: Blazer radio
I have a Sony marine receiver in my Blazer & really like it. The buttons & all are back lit blue or red at night with lights on, but otherwise is just dark black letters/numbers & light gray background & no problem with glare or anything. Any marine type should be like this, and if get caught in the rain topless it's good too!

Re: Blazer radio
I have a kenwood excelon 994 in mine...I can see it about 90% of the time, but really, I'll I ever need to see is the time so it's not the worst thing in the world when I can't...and a quick block of the sun with my hand makes it visible.
