bed rails, strips. Paint and primer

Well im about ready to finally get my wood bed and all the cross members and strips painted and bolted in.

What kind of primer should i use on the stuff? I have the steel ones. They are bare steal not stainless or polished.

What primer should i use and what kind of single stage paint should i use.

Thanks

Re: bed rails, strips. Paint and primer

Since they are bare metal use etch prime, then primer. I reused my originals which were a little rough. My final coat was a rattle can Rustoleum Hammered Black, the truck will be used and I wanted something I could easily touchup. I would think any single stage urethane over sealer would work, I used Nason Chassis black on my frame, firewall and inner fender panels.

My trucks going to be used also, The inside bed sides are going to be Rhino Lined. (or the like) The rustoleum hammered black would look good on mine also! I have that to put on my interior cab floor also. Thanks!

Sounds like you need to just get the etching primer then paint. Paint wont stick to raw steel unless it has been primed first. It will flake off.
