From what I have learned you don't need the dryer [sightglass] if you are running the acumalator in the system.

Drier or accumulator is metering device dependent.

Driers are used with expansion valves because they want bubble free liquid refrigerant so a drier is placed on the high side.

Orifice tubes don't care about bubbles but need an accumulator on the low side to prevent liquid from getting to the compressor.

I think the LS truck compressors are fixed displacement.
