Where to measure to get center for rear?

I need to find center for the rear end on the frame. The truck is a LWB 83 c10. I am putting a four link in the rear and need to center it to weld some backets on?? Is there a general measuring point anywhere.

Couldn't you put a square on the axle flange hubs (a plumb bob would work better). Mark the floor & measure the distance between. It would be hard to mark the pumpkin, so then measure & mark 1/4's on the axle housing from each half.

I always measure from the brake backing plate to outside edge of frame on both sides, once I have same measurement both sides I know I'm centered.

I should have clarified a little more. I am trying to center the rearend front to rear. Since I have taken out the leafs I am not sure were it is.

I would take the time to mount the bed. Center the axle hub in the wheelwell @ rideheight, & hang a plumbob for a true C/L. I know it's more work, but my guess is you'll sleep much better knowing it's going to look right once it all goes together.

Thats is not a bed idea SCOTI. I can always shorten or lengthen a drive shaft, but chances are I wont have to. Thanks

go by your wheelbase. mark exact point of centerline of front wheels, run the length of the wheelbase and transfer the exact endpoint to the center of you hub on your rear axle.


also, the mounting plate for the leaf springs has the hole in the center that can be used for reference when use with the bumpstop center. they're made to match up, i believe.


good luck!


PS: when you line up that rearend, make sure you have the frame at ride height. if its out of position, your driveshaft measurement can be off later. oh, and dont forget to set the pinion angle on that rear BEFORE you put those brackets on!!
