cab corners

On my 51 chevy cab, somebody has done installed cab corners. They slightly overlapped them, and then went around and spot welded them in. I don't know wether to go on and weld them in and try to finish them out or install new. What do you all suggest? A friend said he would leave them since they were already in there but I don't know.

How are they overlapped? Did they flange the edges of the patch, or is the patch just layed over the top of the original sheet metal?

If its flanged, I'd leave it, nobody ever sees that area of the cab anyways. If its overlapped I would remove it and do it properly. Since you didn't do the work yourself, you have no idea what is in between those two pieces. You could very well end up kicking yourself later when the paint starts to bubble or chip in that area.

Also, if they're only spot welded in place, you make be able to use the pieces they already installed. Is it possible to remove the new pieces without damaging them beyond use?

They didn't flange them, and they didn't extend them into the dr area like they are suppose to be. I need to get new one's and do it right. I'll cut out around them and et rid of all their mistakes. It's just another deal like brazing up my cowl vent. Thanks

Sounds like my past few days with my engine swap in my 71. I think the Cad 500 ate something that didn't agree with it.

Yeah do it right. I never lap weld unless its like that from the factory. If I do a patch I always butt weld. Why? Because if you do metal finishing like I do its easy to hammer and dolly on a butt welded joint. Its not the same case with a lap welded joint. I know people who do lap welds but imo butt welding is the way to go with patch panel work.

Thanks guys, also I found a guy that has some parts, various new seals, new sun visors, and several other things. Going this wk end to ck it out. Ordering new cab corners.
